Side note on elevator keys.

Any keys for performing the firefighter recall, engaging/shutting down the equipment, or changing the equipment functionality in anyway, are required to be sold only to the owner of the elevator, the facility management company, life safety companies, emergency personal, or to elevator companies.

Due to the life safety nature of these keys, they are usually held within the elevator rooms, locked offices, and/or away from the public. They can control the functionality of the equipment, which is a danger in untrained, or malicious hands.

Companies that sell these online will usually require you to prove who you are, and why you need them, before selling them to you. If someone who does not own/have specific requirements to allow for the purchase of these attempts to purchase, or falsify information in an attempt to acquire these keys, they are reported to the appropriate authorities.

18 U.S.C. § 1001 makes the use of any false writing or document containing any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry a federal crime punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
